Provider Statistical and Reimbursement Reports
Provider Statistical and Reimbursement (PS&R) reports are produced by a standard system provided by the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS). The PS&R system accumulates Medicare Part A claim data processed on the standard claims processing system.
The two primary reports produced by the PS&R system are the Provider Summary report and Payment Reconciliation report. The Provider Summary report contains a summary of Medicare Part A charges, Medicare patient days, deductibles, coinsurance, payments, etc. for each provider for a specified period of time. The Provider Summary reports are used by providers when preparing their Medicare cost reports. The Payment Reconciliation report provides detailed claim data that supports the Provider Summary report.
Redesigned PS&R System
CMS has implemented the new Redesigned PS&R system. Beginning with the January 31, 2009 cost reporting year, providers will obtain the PS&R reports needed to file their Medicare cost report by accessing the Individuals Authorized Access to CMS Computer Systems (IACS). However, providers must first register for an IACS account to allow access to PS&R data specific to their organization at any time.
The registration process in IACS involves a provider verification process that includes the submission of supporting documentation. We suggest that you begin the registration process several weeks in advance of the cost report due date to avoid delays in the ability to access your PS&R. For additional information about accessing IACS, refer to the “References” listed below.
Once registered, refer to the Producing Providers Statistical and Reimbursement (PS&R) Summary Reports Web page for instructions on obtaining the PS&R reports needed to file Medicare cost reports.
