HIGLAS Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)
What is HIGLAS?
Healthcare Integrated General Ledger Accounting System – It is an integrated, dual-entry accounting system that replaces our current accounting system. This is a single system that will be used by all Medicare Contractors.
What impact will HIGLAS have on claims processing?
HIGLAS only involves the financial accounting system. The Fiscal Intermediary Standard System (FISS) will continue to be used for all claims processing functions.
What are the benefits of HIGLAS?
HIGLAS will improve the accountability for Medicare payments to providers serving Medicare beneficiaries. This system will strengthen management of accounts receivable, produce automated financial statements, and reduce costs by eliminating redundant and manual processes.
Will we see any changes in our claims payments?
For Home Health and Hospice providers, RAP payments will take one extra day as all payments go through the HIGLAS system. No other changes will occur.
When will this transition occur?
The HIGLAS transition for Cahaba Government Benefit Administrators is scheduled for late summer of 2008.
