LCD – FI - Erythropoietin Analogues (EA) – Indications and Limitations Updated – CORRECTION

Effective May 1, 2007, due to FDA black box warnings, Erythropoietin Analogues (EA) will not be covered in the treatment of anemia in malignancy.  In order to comply, the following revisions will be made in the LCD:

  • The Indications section will reflect the above
  • The Limitations section will be updated to include the above
  • The ICD-9 section will be modified

Also, the treatment of anemia secondary to chemotherapy will not be covered beyond 90 days from the last chemotherapy administration.

ICD-9 285.9 was inadvertently left off of the ICD-9 section of the Future LCD.  Although not viewable at this time, this correction will be incorporated into the LCD.

Providers are encouraged to review these revisions to ensure compliance effective May 1, 2007.
