Contractors develop LCDs based on scientific evidence related to the topic of each policy. To ensure that all valid scientific evidence is considered prior to implementing an LCD, CMS requires contractors to receive comments from affected providers and to conduct a forum to receive public comments from interested parties concerning proposed LCDs. Go to the Contact Us page and select “Write Us” for information on submitting LCD reconsiderations in writing or via e-mail.
Draft LCDs will be open to comment for a specified length of time. Cahaba will also host an open meeting to receive comments on draft LCDs. See additional information about open meetings for details. Comments can be viewed by scrolling to the end of the LCD under the "LCD Attachment" heading.
Soon after the comment period ends for a draft, Cahaba will post comments and responses to the draft LCD in the form of an attachment, which will be located under the section titled “Related Documents”. The Notice period is a minimum of 45 days in which a new or revised LCD is issued, following a comment period.
