Checking Claim Status
To check the status of your Medicare claim:
- Use the Interactive Voice Response (IVR). To access phone numbers and IVR instructions, select the “Contact Us” link, which is located at the top of each Web page, and then select Phone Us.
- Access the Fiscal Intermediary Standard System (FISS) via Direct Data Entry (DDE). Go to the “Education and Outreach” web page and select the “Educational Materials” link. After selecting your provider type, access the Inquiry Menu link under the Fiscal Intermediary Standard System (FISS) Reference Guide.
Web Based Options
The Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA) Privacy Rule requires Medicare contractors to safeguard beneficiary protected health information (PHI) from unauthorized disclosures; therefore, due to security limitations, Cahaba is unable to offer a web based tool for you to check the status of your claims.
The Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) continues to seek viable solutions to better serve the provider community through self service options. For example, CMS is currently conducting an Internet Eligibility Pilot to receive beneficiary eligibility via the Internet.
Visit the I Want To… Web page for assistance in finding a variety of information (e.g., local coverage determinations (LCDs), educational materials) offered on our Web site.
